J. Mark Batts, Acting Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Cincinnati Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and U.S. Attorney Gregory G. Lockhart, Southern District of Ohio, announce the arrests of Vernell E. Burney, age 19, of Dayton, Ohio, and Lakeisha N. Burney, age 24, of Centerville, Ohio as the result of two federal complaints. The FBI was assisted by the Englewood Police Department, the Miami Township Police Department, the Fairborn Police Department, the Centerville Police Department and the Safe Streets Task Force.
Vernell Burney has been charged in a federal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio with three counts of violation of Title 18, U.S. Code Section 2113 (a) - Bank Robbery. Lakeisha Burney has been charged in a federal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio with four counts of violation of Title 18, U.S. Code Section 2113 (a) - Bank Robbery. Maximum punishment permitted under federal law upon conviction of each count of this crime is imprisonment for 20 years.

Burney and Lakeisha Burney appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Merz today,
October 11, 2007, at the U.S. District Courthouse in Dayton, Ohio, for an
Initial Appearance on the federal charges and were remanded into the custody
of the U.S. Marshal's Service.
