Stanley J. Borgia, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Cincinnati Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announces that Sergeant Sylvia Morales, Cincinnati Police Department, District 3, has been named to receive the 2005 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award. The award will be presented to Sergeant Morales on Monday December 5, 2005 at Room 4-519, Federal Building, 550 Main Street, Cincinnati, at 9:30 am. The media is invited to this presentation. All media will be required to present identification at the entrance to the Federal Building and should arrive early enough to pass through building security. FBI personnel will be available to escort media from the lobby to the ceremony.

Sergeant Morales received this award as the result of her efforts to establish liaisons between law enforcement and the Hispanic Community in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. She regularly volunteers her time to work within the Hispanic Community to explain the role of law enforcement and to instruct members of the Hispanic Community in how to avoid being the victim of criminal activity. In addition, Sergeant Morales has worked with the Regional Community Policing Institute at Great Oaks to develop a basic Spanish language curriculum for police and fire personnel to enable public safety officers to communicate better with members of the Hispanic Community. Sergeant Morales is a native of Puerto Rico and is the mother of two adult children.

SAC Borgia stated that Sergeant Morales exemplifies the finest aspects of the Cincinnati Police Department in her work within the Hispanic Community. She has taken it upon herself to implement the most important aspects of a quality community policing program by reaching out to bridge gaps between law enforcement and the community it serves. She is highly deserving of this award.
